The Václav Klaus Institute has just released its fourteenth publication, this time written in the English language. The book, titled „The Never-Ending Struggle for Free Society,“ is a collection of 40 speeches, essays, and articles by Václav Klaus written in English over the past three years. This period covers the last year and a half of his presidency and the first year and a half of his post-political career at the IVK.
The book is divided into five thematic chapters. Chapter I focuses on the Quest for Liberty and Democracy, Chapter II discusses the EU without Illusions, Chapter III reflects on the Transition in Retrospect, Chapter IV delves into the Global Warming Doctrine’s Attack Continues, and Chapter V offers Reflections on the Current World.
In the introduction to the book, Václav Klaus reflects on the collection of texts, emphasizing that there is no sharp divide between his time in office and out of office. He maintains that his views have remained consistent, and he continues to express them openly. The collection provides a structured overview of his evolving views over the specified period.
This publication is not the first of its kind, as there have been two similar collections of Václav Klaus’s English texts in the past. The first collection, published by the CATO Institute in 1997, covered the fall of communism and the early years of democracy in the Czech Republic. The second collection, released by the National Center for Policy Analysis in 2005, focused on the country’s development in the early 2000s.
The current collection of essays, articles, and speeches is unique in that it is solely in English, without any translations from Czech or other languages. The book’s five chapters cover a range of interconnected topics, including Liberty, Democracy, Nation-State vs. Global Governance, Europe and the European Union, Transition, Global Warming Doctrine, and current world issues such as the Ukraine crisis.
Václav Klaus expresses his gratitude to his colleagues for their assistance in compiling the book and making its release possible. The book is available for purchase through an order form on the IVK website for a price of 200 CZK.
In conclusion, „The Never-Ending Struggle for Free Society“ offers a comprehensive insight into Václav Klaus’s views on various socio-political issues over the past three years. The structured format of the book allows readers to explore his perspectives on liberty, democracy, Europe, transition, global warming, and current world events in a coherent and engaging manner.
