The incident took place on Saturday, June 8, 2024, and resulted in the death of the victim after undergoing intensive treatment for burns all over his body in the ICU of Wahidin Sudiro Husodo District Hospital in Mojokerto, Indonesia.
According to the Chief of Public Relations of East Java Regional Police, Commissioner Dirmanto, the perpetrator has been identified as a suspect and is currently in police custody. „At this time, the perpetrator has been arrested, detained, and designated as a suspect. The perpetrator is experiencing deep trauma,“ he said in a statement quoted by Kompas.id.
Initial investigations have revealed that the motive behind Brigadier FN’s cruel act was due to resentment towards her husband, who frequently spent money on online gambling. According to the suspect’s confession, her husband often used money that should have been used to support their three children for online gambling.
„The motive was that the victim often spent money on shopping that should have been used to support their three children on online gambling,“ explained Commissioner Dirmanto. Arguments between the couple frequently occurred prior to the incident, stemming from the suspect’s dissatisfaction with her husband’s gambling habits.
The peak of their marital turmoil occurred on Saturday, June 8, 2024, when Brigadier FN, influenced by her emotions, poured petrol on her husband’s body, causing a fatal fire. The suspect is now facing charges related to Domestic Violence (KDRT).
Police have also arranged for assistance from a team of psychology experts to help restore the psychological condition of the suspect, who is deeply traumatized by the incident.
