For decades, WHYY has been the Philadelphia Region’s go-to source for insightful, educational, and award-winning PBS Kids television programs. From beloved classics like Fred Rogers‘ Neighborhood to modern favorites like Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood, WHYY has been a trusted provider of quality children’s programming. But their commitment to the needs of young people goes beyond just what’s on screen. Through WHYY internships, the organization offers college juniors and seniors, graduate, and postgraduate students the opportunity to gain valuable professional development and on-the-job training experiences.
WHYY’s internship program is designed to provide meaningful learning opportunities across a variety of media platforms. Interns have the chance to work in production, newsrooms, promotions, and administration, all under the supervision of award-winning professionals. College credit may be granted for internship experiences, which are offered during the Spring, Summer, and Fall semesters. The program consists of a 12-week session, with interns working 16 hours a week for most internships, and 20 hours a week for Newsroom internships. As of Summer 2018, WHYY internships are paid at a rate of $15.00 per hour.

To apply for a WHYY internship, interested students must submit a resume, cover letter discussing career goals and relevant experience, a writing sample, a link to media or digital work (if applicable), and a letter of recommendation. Applicants from non-native English-speaking countries must also provide proof of English language proficiency. Internship application deadlines vary depending on the term period, with sessions available in Fall, Winter-Spring, and Summer. Applications must be submitted by specific dates to be considered for each session. Due to the high volume of applications, WHYY is unable to notify all applicants who are not selected for internships. All materials submitted become the property of WHYY and are not returnable.
WHYY offers a range of internship opportunities in both administrative and media-related roles. Administrative offerings include internships in Human Resources, IT, Marketing, Member Relations, Public Information, and Major Gifts.
