Will the Indian stock market be closed on Monday for Raksha Bandhan?

The stock market holiday on 15th August 2024, in celebration of the 78th Indian Independence Day, has left some investors and followers on Dalal Street wondering whether the market will reopen on Monday or Tuesday. This confusion stems from the fact that Raksha Bandhan 2024 falls on 19th August 2024, which is a Monday. To clear up any uncertainty, individuals are encouraged to visit the BSE or NSE website and refer to the list of stock market holidays in 2024.

To access the list of stock market holidays, individuals can visit the BSE website at bseindia.com and click on the ‚Trading Holidays‘ option. This will provide them with a comprehensive list of stock market holidays for the year 2024. In August 2024, the only trading holiday was on 15th August. Following this holiday, the next trading holiday is on 2nd October 2024. Therefore, the Indian stock market will be open on Monday next week, despite Raksha Bandhan falling on the same day.

Looking ahead, there are a total of 15 trading holidays in 2024. After 15th August, there are only four more stock market holidays remaining in the year. These holidays are on 2nd October 2024 (Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti), 1st November 2024 (Diwali/Laxmi Pujan), 15th November 2024 (Guru Nanak Jayanti), and 25th December 2024 (Christmas).

In terms of market performance, the Indian stock market ended higher on the last trading day of the truncated week. The Nifty 50 index closed 396 points higher at 24,540, the BSE Sensex surged 1,330 points to close at 80,436, and the Bank Nifty index gained 788 points to end at 50,515. In the broader market, the BSE Small-cap index rose by 1.70%, while the Mid-cap index increased by 1.80%. All sectors closed in the green, with IT and realty sectors leading the gains with over 2% intraday increases.

Overall, despite the confusion surrounding the stock market holiday and upcoming festivals, investors can rest assured that the Indian stock market will be open for trading on Monday. By staying informed about the list of stock market holidays in 2024, individuals can plan their trading activities accordingly and make informed decisions in the market.
