The National Youth Day celebrations in Brunei Darussalam were marked by a ceremony where a youth organisation and three individuals were recognized for their outstanding contributions to society. His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, presented awards to the recipients, highlighting their dedication and impact on the community.
One of the recipients, the Lamin Warisan Enterprise, was awarded for its efforts in preserving and promoting Brunei Darussalam’s cultural heritage. Nornaqibah binti Abdul Hamid, a representative for the organisation, expressed gratitude for the recognition and emphasized the importance of promoting Brunei’s traditions through cultural, environmental, and culinary activities. The award serves as motivation for the organisation to continue expanding its offerings and enhancing the cultural experience for visitors.
Another individual recognized during the ceremony was Basma Lachkar, who received an award for her contributions in sports. As a 21-year-old wushu practitioner, Basma has achieved significant success in various competitions, including silver medals at the World University Games and the Asian Games. She credits her achievements to the support of her family and coaches and aims to represent Brunei in international competitions, including the Olympics, while pursuing studies in communication at University Technology Brunei.
Md Haziq Hisyam bin Md Zaki was also honored for his contributions in community service, particularly through his work with the Al Muyassar Group – Nadi Qurannic LC (Belait District) and Persatuan Kemajuan Insan Kesan. He highlighted the importance of continuing efforts to support youth development through initiatives like the Catalyst programme, emphasizing the need to enhance leadership and self-management among Bruneian youth.
Lastly, Mohammad Ashmeer Imtiaz Ahmad, a youth volunteer with the Ministry of Culture, Youth, and Sports, received an award for the second consecutive year. Expressing his appreciation and commitment to service, Mohammad Ashmeer emphasized the importance of serving sincerely and helping society. He sees the recognition as a testament to his dedication and a call to continue encouraging other youths to contribute to national goals.
